Letting 1.0pre5 peek out the door...
Greetings,
I've put up 1.0pre5, a new interim release, that fixes the majority of issues that I've been seeing (get selling, get my ebay, multisniping, etc.), and has some other changes that are more subtle.

This is, as always, a pre-release. Please be careful about using it, and please let me know how it behaves. If nothing is glaringly wrong, I'll be releasing it 'officially' in a few days.

For Linux and other platforms:
http://www.jbidwatcher.com/download/JBidWatcher-1.0pre5.jar
remember to run it with:
java -Xmx512m -Xms256m -jar JBidWatcher-1.0pre5.jar

For Windows, download from:
http://www.jbidwatcher.com/download/JBidWatcher-1.0pre5.exe
It's self-contained, doesn't require installation, just run it!

For Mac OS X (10.2 and later), including Intel-based:
http://www.jbidwatcher.com/download/JBidWatcher-1.0pre5.app.tar.gz
It may download as a '.tar' file, and you'll have to double-click that to extract the actual app. Be sure to toss your old copy first, though, otherwise the new one will get a name like 'JBidWatcher.1'.

Please everyone, the most important thing is to get more feedback, so that I can know whether it's safe to release it to the general public (as opposed to the small percentage who read my blog).

Thanks very much, and best of luck with your auctions!

Hi,

Jbidwatcher failed to load pages on ebay.fr

( for example http://bateau-nautisme.listings.ebay.fr/Bateaux-a-Moteur_Navigation-Fluviale_W0QQfromZR4QQsacatZ119890QQsocmdZListingItemList )

Greetings,
Hrm. I'm not having any trouble dragging-and-dropping items from that page onto JBidwatcher. What are you seeing it not do?

1.0pre5 feedback

Hi,

I'm just checking out this version. So far the only issue I found is that deleted tabs reappear after closing and opening. Can't comment on the bidding and sniping (will snipe on something in six days though).

Thanks for update,

Johann

Hello,

anoter small one: After entering a snipe, the snipe value isn't shown when "snipe" is selected again.

Thanks, Morgan.

I used this successfully today, and it appears to be working just great.

Custom columns don't stick

Moved old JAR file; rename .jbid directory

Entered id and pswd, and sync'd time w/server.

Set custom background color.

Unchecked "number","status",others

Checked "shipping"

Added auctions (drag/drop); saved aucctions; closed Jbid.

Ran Jbid again, found "number" and "status" columns had returned.

Greetings,
AH! You're absolutely right, and I know why, and it's why I do beta tests like this. Thanks muchly, I'll get a fix in before the release proper.

ShowInfo: some items display bad

Linux 2.6 kernel
java version "1.4.2_11"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_11-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_11-b06, mixed mode)

1) Six items in Current (drag/drop'd them). All ShowInfo ok except 2nd and 3rd item (by same seller) which don't display the item picture but instead display some icon the seller has placed in his blurb (below the ebay "Description" field).

2) The 3rd item ShowInfo fails completely. This displays a single line of text w/formating chars stretching off screen to the right.

The six item numbers in order as follows:
7603392535, 4626125613, 7604346936, 4625893189, 7604690940, 7605219459

The pop-up thumbnails for the 2nd & 3rd items also show the icon rather than the picture.

Greetings,
Thanks! I've tuned the regular expression (title search string) to not match all the crud which some auctions end up with in their title, which fixed the 3rd entry 'Show Info' problem.

The graphics, I'm at a bit of a loss for. I'm not sure why it's thinking that's the product image. :(

Hello Morgan,

The latest version, Mar 29, 2006, is broken. When I load it I get the msg that I am not logged in and therefore there will be no snpies although other functions are operable. I go back to your Mar 9th version and it seems to work properly.

John Robertson

Greetings,
I'd love to know what kind of error messages, console messages, or other errors there might have been at the same time. Specifically if JBidwatcher says anything about *why* it couldn't log in.

Never do much with the cosmetics of JBidWatcher so no feedback on that.

I did just snipe an item and all worked just fine. Didn't win the item but I can't blame the program for me being cheep! :-)

Thanks for the update.

web display doesn't work right

On the web page display when I click on the item description the ebay page doesn't come up. When I mouse over the item description it shows "http://wallace:9099/jbidwatcher#url" (wallace is my local server). I think the generated url is the problem.

Went back to 0.9.9 - works ok.

Thanks for all your work - you're a hero

Greetings,
Thanks! I had revamped the HTML backend display, using a stylesheet for doing the transform instead of hardcoded Java, so I could improve it faster in the future. I hadn't fixed everything up to work quite the same, unfortunately.

There may be a few other similar minor omissions that are different between the 0.9.9 and 1.0pre5 HTML displays, and if so, please feel free to report them.

If you're going to go 'back' to a version, though, go back to 1.0pre2. It works, at least. :)

slight issue...
(Anonymous)
2006-03-30 11:13 pm UTC (link)
I'm using the 1.0pre5 exe on XP SP1 with Java 1.5.0.40 (5.0 with Update 4).

I noticed a small issue with selecting items to delete from the completed tab. Start selecting multiple items for deletion by holding down CTRL and selecting the auction, and there will eventually be one that loses all the previous selections. Seems to mostly fall between 3 and 5 selections before it loses the previous selections.

I usually do this and have never noticed any issues, so I think this has just popped up with the new 1.0pre5.

Thanks!

Hi,
Snipes have been working fine - program seems stable
Only slight problem is auctions deleted (uploaded from watching) seem to re-appear when program opened up again - not a major whine but thought you might want to know :)

Yeah, it bugs me too...

Greetings,
Unfortunately, that one is Broken As Designed. However, the large majority of the complaints about 'It's not getting My eBay' items!' were from people who deleted their items from JBidwatcher, and then tried to get them again using 'Get My eBay Items', and were confused when it didn't reload the items they'd deleted before.

So now, if the 'My eBay' search is set to run regularly, it'll reload items from the watching page, and it'll ignore that they were deleted previously.

This is one where I'm just not sure there's a winning move for me. :(

If you use the URL Load to load the My eBay Items I'm Watching page, it'll generally do the right thing, as long as you have less than 100 items (and you have the 'show at a time' configuration cranked up to 100), because the URL Load will (by default) obey the ignore-deleted-items setting.

Hang
(Anonymous)
2006-03-31 06:30 pm UTC (link)
Probably nothing important, but anyway:
When I updated from pre2 to pre5, jbidwatcher hung the first time I ran it, and kept doing that even with pre2.
After some head-scratching, I renamed the .jbidwatcher folder and it started working fine (had to configure it again, of course).
I noticed some error logs on the old folder and the error message was "Currency cannot compareTo different currencies!". If you want I can post the full log.

After that I've managed to successfully snipe an item at 7 seconds. Thank you very much for this excellent tool.

Greetings from Portugal,
Jose Araujo

Problems
(Anonymous)

Great piece of software. 1.0pre6on Windows 98se.It still has issues with posting bids/snipes again for already closed auctions after a restart of the program. Feature request: Can it synchronize the system clock to the ebay server also about 3 minutes or so before the auction ends? That would be a great feature. As it stands now, it logs events using system time which is often off by a few minutes and makes discerning the exact timing of the events from the log difficult. May be it could be made as an option.

Also I don't know if the multi feature is not working or whether I don't know how to use it. I did not find any information on how to use this feature. Is it set by matching color? How do you/Can you set it to get more than one item in a group?
