Quickie beta version to fix current eBay breakage.
Greetings,
Normally, if I could, I'd address this on a weekend, but that hasn't been an option this time, as the breakage was severe enough to require an emergency release.

I'm asking you to test this version, so that I know it works... I've pushed up a new version of JBidwatcher for download, which SHOULD fix the adding/updating issues. Please check this version out first, so that I can feel comfortable pushing it to a larger community. Responses will be best noticed if they include 'BETA' in all caps in the subject line someplace.

The versions are as follows...

For the Macintosh, download from:
http://www.jbidwatcher.com/download/JBidWatcher-1.0pre2.app.tar.gz

For Windows, download:
http://www.jbidwatcher.com/download/JBidWatcher-1.0pre2.exe

For Linux, or any other platform that can run Java .jar files, download:
http://www.jbidwatcher.com/download/JBidWatcher-1.0pre2.jar

I hope these versions work cleanly and perfectly out of the box for you. If not, as I said above, please report to me anything at ALL that you find not working quite right.

Best of luck with your auctions!

-- Morgan Schweers, CyberFOX!

I am now able to add auctions again. Yay.

But there was a note, that version 0.9.9 is available for download, which I ignored, because I thought it might switch back to an older version.

I used the OSX version.

Cheers,

BETA 1 small problem remaining

Thanks for the release!1 problem that has now appeared is all of the historic snipe information has been and is being deleted. No record of what I was prepared to pay or when I was outbid on a snipe. I backed up all of the auctions before upgrading to JBidWatcher-1.0pre1.exe but noticed this happed after the upgrade along with removal of seller info. JBidWatcher-1.0pre2.exe returned the seller info but still losing old snipe info.

All is well again on my Windows Pro XP2. Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Schweers on your marriage. And, Morgan, please thank the lady from all of us for allowing you to take the time away from your new marriage to fix this thing. She must be a super special lady. Donation on way shortly -- enough for modest diner for two -- at home!

BETA availability - Many Thanks to Morgan

Just a brief but sincere thanks to Morgan for rushing out the Beta 1 pre.

When it broke the other day , it made me realise how much I use this little routine. It makes an excellent "monitor" of open auctions; rather like a speedo reading for all the auctions in play. Much easier than accessing Active auctions thru ebay.

We should all re-donate another sum to Morgan's Paypal account for his excellent support, and not take him for granted. Well Done!!!!

Just loaded thsi and it has imported both my current and watching ended items o.k. I seem to have lost my JBidWatcher "history" i.e. all of my ended items that I previously had. Pity bout that cos it was a very useful and helpful pile of data! Might bid on something I'm simply watching later today just to test out. Time here (U.K.) is 15.44, 12 March.

PS this is a fantastic wee tool!

Thanks for the update. Seems to be working fine for me. I use Windows XP Pro. Did not delete any historical bid data and actually updated info on two bids that I had lost. I needed to force the updates on those bids individually, but it did work.

Thanks again,

Colleen

I have nothing to snipe at the moment, so I can't say if that works, but I can't seem to get the application to download my Selling Items?

Can you add a preference option that will remember if I want the Toolbar visible or not?

thanks!

Hi. The fix worked for a while but has fallen over in the last 24 hours (01 UT 13 March 2006). I will try a snipe but the item updates are not working.

Good luck

Hi again. Snipe appeared to work but bid was too low. So it seems that the update function is failing and so is the add feature by using the auction number or by drag and drop. Very much the same as the problems before the beta release.

Cheers

Marc.

Just noticed an error in my email - the domain should have been internode.on.net (a missing dot before net - sorry).

Like other people here, I realized that, without Jbid ebay is virtually unusable!

I just installed the beta and my completed auctions are intact. I can add to snip list via drag / drop & by item number. Will try a snip to verify.

Thanks Morgan, you can expect a PayPal from me in the very near future! You are an unsung hero!

Hi Morgan, Just downloaded the windows BETA fix and have successfully sniped an auction. Thanks for that, I was a little worried when the 9.9 version failed last week. Cheers. Jon from Mandurah, Australia

I agree with comment re ebay being unusable with the jbid. This program is far better than any of the expensive ones out there.

Beta has fixed all of the problems. Thanks

Haven't had the chance to test sniping, but listing works, thank you. Perhaps in the future the scraping code could live in a separate .jar file, updateable like a plugin?

BETA 1.0pre2.exe XP PRO SP2 Working -- BUT with note
(Anonymous)
2006-03-13 07:28 pm UTC (link)
Morgan, THANK YOU. Works like 0.9.9 was for me before eBay did their thing. I re-named the existing folders the original 0.9.9 installation built before running 1.0pre2.exe so I began with a clean state. The POP-UP WINDOW that comes up when the user right clicks to add "Shipping Cost" logs "EVENTS" that with my 56K dial-up and eBays slower servers run clear off the screen................................................................ with repeated "Communication failure talking to the server.(1)" "Failed to load from server!(1)" messages. And with the input entry field for the shipping field below the bottom of the screen. Maybe now with the release of 1.0 would be a good time to restrict this "EVENTS" thing a little.

I'm trying the Mac version of the quickie beta, monitoring only one auction item. The program seems to be working fine except for the price information to the RHS of the XML tag line: it hasn't updated since I first pasted the auction item. johninbrisbane-4264

final auction price: null (-1)

Hi, I updated to your latest version (currently, 1.0pre2). Noticed that this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8773968147 after its completion, went into the "complete" tab (as it should), but the price (listed under the "Current" column) reads "null (-1)", instead of what should be shown ("$50.00"). If you select this auction, and right-click and pick "Update auction" the result is still the same. This is the first auction I've seen come back with an obvious bug... Maybe others have noticed something similar? Anyways, this program is very promising... I like what I see so far.
